Norfolk Silver Dolphins

We are a Safe Sport USA team. As such, coaches and the board of directors are trained in the following policies:

• If we witness any bullying or hazing between teammates, end it immediately, remove the swimmer(s) from the practice/meet and contact their parents. Notify the Head Coach, who will notify the NSD President.
• If we notice a swimmer acting “off” or a change in demeanor, please inform the Head Coach, who will notify the NSD President. If a swimmer shares a possible abuse case with you (this could include them sharing abuse of another teammate), assure the swimmer, then immediately contact the NSD President. An investigation will be conducted.
• Outside of technique instruction (arms and legs only), the only appropriate physical contact between a coach and any swimmer is a fist bump, high five, or pat on the top of the shoulder. Anything beyond that will result in a warning and possible termination from the coaching staff.
• No one-on-one or group digital/phone communications with any swimmer(s).
• No one-on-one swim lessons outside of practices during the duration of the season (September through March), unless previously approved by the NSD President and confirmed (in writing) by the parents they will be present and supervising at all sessions.
• Coaches shall not share locker room space while NSD swimmers are also present. Due to the nature of Norfolk pool facilities, this may mean coming and leaving the facilities in their swimsuit, using a private bathroom, or waiting until all swimmers have left.
