Coach Maurice is new with us for the 2023-2024 season! You may be familiar with him as he has taught swim lessons at Ghent Square and coached the Ghent Square Torpedoes for the past five years! He grew up swimming in Norfolk and competed through USA swimming, including competing in the Eastern Zone USA championships!
Coach Maurice holds a Bachelor's in Psychology with a focus on Elementary education (PK-3) and is currently a 3rd grade teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools. In his spare time, coach Maurice likes to exercise, listen to all kinds of music, travel, go to the beach, and experience new restaurants!
Coach Jada has a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University and currently works as a Behavioral Health Therapist. She is a Norfolk native and swam for the NSD from when she was 11 years old until I was 14, then transitioning to the TAC-USA team while also swimming in high school making it to States. Jada was a certified lifeguard for the City of Norfolk for 5 years and during those lifeguarding years joined the NSD coaching team for the summer and fall league many, many moons ago. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family, relax outside, enjoy good food, and listen to music. We are excited to have her expertise and enthusiasm for the sport this season! Coach Tony is a Norfolk Native who has served the community for over 15 years. He swam for NSD from the age of 13 until 18 years old. While swimming for NSD, Tony was also a certified lifeguard for the City of Norfolk. He also periodically assisted with coaching NSD during the summer and fall months alongside lifeguarding. Despite owning his own trucking company now, he still has a passion for assisting our community, especially when it involves bettering kids swimming skills. In his spare time, he likes to watch movies, travel, and enjoy good food. We are honored to have him as a part our amazing team and we know Coach Tony is looking forward to an amazing swim year with NSD.
