Here's some common questions new families ask:

What ages do you allow?
- We accept swimmers from ages 5 through 18

What skill level must my swimmer be?
- In order to be a part of NSD, we expect swimmers to be able to complete one length (25yds) without assistance in a standard stroke. This means no hanging on the wall or lane rope at any point. Example: Your 5 year old swimmer starts a freestyle, pauses halfway but treads water (doesn't grab wall), and then completes the full distance. This is acceptable and we'll be happy to work on their skills the remainder of the season.

Do you have a tryout period?
- Yes, the first week of practice is considered tryouts for beginners. Our coaches will work with new swimmers the first week to get them across the pool and make the final decision on readiness. If you're unsure, work with your kids before the first week to meet the skill level mentioned above.

What kind of commitment do you expect?
- We expect non-USA swimmers to practice a minimum of 2-3x/week and attend 3 swim meets per season. We highly encourage USA swimmers to practice every day and attend all meets. We recognize there are many commitments families must balance. NSD encourages you to take full advantage of what we offer and what you paid for. Our coaches will be at the pool each weekday and hope you will use it to your (and your kid's) advantage.

Where are practices?
- See our pool/practice locations page. We work with Norfolk Parks & Rec to secure pool time and, while rare, they may move our practice locations/days throughout the season, based on staffing needs, team size, etc.

I don't live in Norfolk. Can we still join the team?
- Yes! Additional fees may apply to obtain a pool access ID card from Norfolk Parks & Rec (paid directly to them) as a nonresident (typically $100/year per swimmer).

Do you offer refunds if we decide to not continue on the team?
- Yes, if you meet the requirements outlined on the registration form, we can offer a refund (minus non-refundable registration fee if paying by credit card).
