Swimmer Code of Conduct, Practices, Cancellations

Our goal is to foster a love of swimming. For non-USA swimmers, a Dolphin typically practices 2-3x/week. For USA swimmers, we highly encourage you to practice daily.

  • Basic rules and swimmer Code of Conduct:
    • Be on time for practices, competitions, and events
    • Respect NSD coaches and leadership
    • Listen and follow directions during practices, competitions, and team events
    • Respect fellow teammates
    • Follow Norfolk pool rules, lifeguard instructions, and management
  • How each practice group is determined
    • Practice is split between Beginners (30 min.), Intermediate (40 min.) and Advanced (1 hour in September, 1.5 hours October - March).
    • See Practice Locations / Days for where and when we practice across the city.
    • Coaches will determine a swimmer's level during the first few weeks of practice. If you are unsure of your swimmer's ability, please default to a lower level and ask the head coach for guidance.
  • Cancellations (Weather, Closure, Etc.)
    • IMPORTANT: We will notify families via SwimTopia app alert whenever practice is unexpectedly cancelled. Please ensure you have the SwimTopia app downloaded, signed in, and alerts enabled and active on your phone (including "do not disturb" or "focus" overrides) so you don't miss these important alerts!
