CANCELLED: 2020-2021 Swim Season
Norfolk Silver Dolphins Family and Friends,
I hope this message finds you all happy, healthy, and safe from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
I regret to inform you that there won't be a 2020-2021 swim season. The season was cancelled because of the lack of facilities to practice and compete in, the lack of teams to compete against, and the lingering threat of contracting Coronavirus Disease
2019 (COVID-19).
The primary hurdle is securing pool space during the pandemic. As far as we have heard, Norfolk City Pools are closed for the foreseeable future (what we have heard is at least until March 2021). This leaves NSD without a place to practice and compete. NSD's Board of Directors sought out alternative locations and held discussions with a number of other privately owned pools, but did not find any alternatives that were within our budget and that were willing and or able to host a team of our size. In addition, Hampton Sharks Swimteam reported that they were in a similar situation and doubted that they would be able to field a team this year either. Finally, the lingering threat of contracting COVID-19 is out there and we want to keep everyone safe from its effects.
I look forward to the time that we will be able to safely meet and compete again as a swim team. Please continue to monitor your email and NSD Swimtopia for further news and updates.
Sincerely yours,
Tobin McMurdie
NSD President
