Hello Swim Family!

Welcome to the 2025-2026 season. The Coaches and Board of Directors would like to welcome our new families and welcome back our returning families. We hope that all enjoyed a wonderful summer vacation and are eager to get back into a school routine and swim season.

Here are a few important notes about the first week of practice and other reminders:

• Tryouts are being held this week for NEW NSD SWIMMERS ONLY on T, W, and Th evenings at Southside Aquatic Center. There will be a board member (or two!) there to help answer questions and welcome swimmers onto our team. The Coaches can also answer questions, but please be mindful they have a lot of swimmers to assess in a short amount of time.  Check out our News & Info page for info on our coaches and Board of Directors.
  
  • Schedule for Tryouts: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday ONLY 
    • location: Southside Aquatic Center (1750 Campostella Rd. Norfolk, VA 23523)
    • 8 & under swimmers: 6-7pm
    • 9 & over swimmers: 7-8pm
• ALL NSD swimmers must have a Pool Access Card through Norfolk Parks & Rec. Please fill out the forms and pay at any pool that we practice at. (Note: you do not need to purchase a pool access card if you’re undecided about the team. It can be done next week)
• Next week we will start our regular practice schedule. Please check our Practice Location/Days page for important info on when and where we practice. This schedule has changed from last season, so especially important for returning families to check on this. Also, at this time both Northside and Huntersville are closed for maintenance issues. We will update again prior to next week if the location of practice is different than usual.
• Download the swimtopia app, login, and enable notifications. This is how we communicate time sensitive alerts and all team correspondence. Please enable “do not disturb” or “focus” notification overrides on your phone swimtopia app so alerts always come through or remember to check your notifications before leaving for practice just in case.  Alerts will also always come in an email.
• Begin gathering gear for your swimmer. Competitive suits can be purchased through our swimoutlet team store. Our team colors are navy blue and white and will limit you to those colors for race suits. Practice suits can be any color but must be one piece, snug fitting suit or jammers (no swim trunks). Sizing kit is available for the first few weeks just ask a board member and have your child try on the suits BEFORE getting wet.  Goggles and caps are a must for practice as well as meets.  If you have any questions on which to buy, ask a coach or board member and they can steer you in the right direction.  Fins will also be used regularly once we get into the full swing of the season.  

Have hand me down fins or suits that no longer fit? Bring them to practice the first couple of weeks and set them out with a board member and we can help find someone to gift them to.

Parents who registered to pay by check: please remit payment within 2 weeks of the season start date (no later than September 16th). Need to discuss payment options? Please reach out to us at [email protected].  You can hand checks to any Board Member this week or next week. Scholarship applicants, just sit tight, more info will be out within the first month.  

Lastly! We still have a few board positions that need filling.  We are offering a discount on registration (and can reimburse for those already registered).  If you are interested in possibly joining us, PLEASE REACH OUT.  We cannot make this team work without our wonderful Board Members.  If our positions are adequately staffed, it makes the whole team run smoother for all involved!
